Building on Volvo's goal of Nobody dies in a Volvo is a
force-field of safety features to protect you and everyone around you. This
sedan will blink, beep, display an icon and even talk to you, to make sure you
don't hit anything or anyone. Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake is a
world-first technology that, with radars and cameras, can detect pedestrians in
front. It will warn you and then automatically activate full braking power if
you fail to respond in time. The system can avoid a collision at speeds up to
35 km/h. Other safety features include Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake,
Distance Alert, Driver Alert Control and Lane Departure Warning. City Safety,
another world-first technology, prevents collisions with a vehicle ahead
occurring at speeds of 30 km/h or less, by utilizing a closing velocity sensor.
Depending on the closing speed, City Safety will either pre-charge the brakes,
or automatically brake, to help avoid a rear-end collision. Also, if the car
detects you are getting sleepy, or driving erratically, you'll be presented
with an icon of a coffee cup to suggest it's time to take a break. Furthermore,
the roof of this vehicle can withstand a force of 4.95 times of the car's
weight. MSRP $38,300
